The reasons why webcam models are uniquely qualified for VR Porn

VR Porn Model - Virtual Reality

Webcam models have the perfect skill set for VR porn shoots

Webcam models have a unique skill set which will soon be in demand in the burgeoning VR porn industry. Before I can explain what these skills are, I need to provide some background information that explains why virtual reality is so important to the adult industry and what will differentiate successful VR porn implementations from those that will fail to gain traction with consumers.

Virtual reality content, whether traditional or adult, is all about creating an illusion that mimics real life. It’s about creating an experience that transports the consumer to another reality by means of sound and video. By its very nature, the virtual reality experience must take place from a first-person perspective. This means that VR porn must be shot from a first-person point of view, which introduces new challenges for both performers and videographers who have traditionally worked from a third-person perspective. Yes, POV porn has been around for some time, but they usually represented a smaller segment of an overall shoot. Male performers, in particular, are used to focusing on their female counterparts while they have sex and take numerous breaks between scenes. Suddenly, they need to perform a continuous shoot while staring straight into a VR camera as opposed to focusing uniquely on their partner. This represents a big change, especially for male performers. Female porn performers are often required to stare into a camera while they perform, but like their male counterparts, the shoots are rarely continuous, therefore the VR element of continuity will present new challenges for them as well.

Changes to shooting technique aren’t the only challenges presented by virtual reality porn. It must be recognized that consumers will have different expectations when it comes to VR porn. While gangbangs and threesomes work well from a third person perspective, they may not be what consumers will be looking for in a virtual reality sex experience. I expect that men are going to want “The Girlfriend Experience” – the feeling that they’re in the same room as the performer, up close and personal. Suddenly, dialogue and intimacy, which have been the mainstay of female-friendly porn, will now be sought after by men. The more realistic the experience, the more men will be willing to pay for it. Yes, monetization is coming back to the adult industry.

Which leads us to our initial question: Why are webcam models so important to the VR porn industry?

Well, for two reasons. The first is that cam girls (and guys) are used to working in an environment where they perform from the first-person point of view, focusing their attention exclusively on the camera before them. Their second talent is being able to do so for an extended period of time, without breaks, while maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the viewer. The virtual reality workflow is much better aligned with the skill set of cam girls than it is with that of traditional adult performers. Couples who perform on webcam together will be particularly well suited for VR porn shoots, whether they be live or pre-recorded. I fully expect to see VR porn portals appear where amateur performers will be able to upload their homemade VR experiences much like they do now on services like ManyVids. The potential revenue from these VR video sales will be significant, whether from straight up sales or third party advertising revenue.

Do you agree that consumer expectations of VR porn will be different than that of traditional third party porn? And do experienced webcam models stand to benefit? We encourage you to share your thoughts in the comment section.
